Our History
BRIEF HISTORY OF IYEREGO ORUBO
Our progenitor OKPOKU (1), together with other early settlers migrated from the present day Bayelsa State to Okopiri (Okochiri) and settled there. Okpoku while in Okopiri (Okochiri) begat IYEREGO(2). Iyerego also begat ORUBO(3), while Orubo also begat his son and named him after his father IYEREGO ORUBO(4), who was often referred to as ‘Kala Orubo(4)’ (grandson), and ‘Opu Orubo(2)’ (grandfather), within the family circle.
Okpoku died and was buried at Okopiri (Okochiri), while Iyerego and his son, at the death of their father and grandfather Orubo, moved and became part of the first settlers at Ngeme-Biri, on the Island, where Orubo begat Iyerego Orubo (alias Kala Orubo). it was Iyerego Orubo (Kala Orubo) that established the Orubo dynasty with the Orubo Warikubu, Orubo Furo and Orubo Ila structures with other component units in Ibanilele Omu-Aru, Ngeme-Biri now Koniju Town, Okrika. The names: Orubo, Iyerego, Iyerego Orubo was used interchangeably within the family circle till date.
Credit goes to Adasimaka and Oku, who through the instruction and instrumentality of their father, Iyerego Orubo (Kala Orubo) founded Orubo-Ama, due to serious congestion and the need to create a thorough fare from the market square through, and down to the waters edge, at the sea shore of Ngeme-Biri. The family house across would have to be demolished to create the required access road leading to the waters edge. And following the instruction of the then District Officer, the family house was demolished to pave way for an access road to the waters edge in Ngeme-Biri. The situation forced the children of Iyerego Orubo: Adasimaka and Oku who moved out and finally secured Orubo-Ama to enable them expand their settlement/place of abode across to the new found town Orubo-Ama.
In course of time and by natural providence, Orubo dynasty having been established, developed and expanded from Ila, furo, warikubu and now migrating to another level, Omu-Aru, while it still remained a nucleus family.
The nucleus family (Children) of Iyerego Orubo (Orubo), cohabit together with the name Orubo, Iyerego, (Iyerego Orubo), as Ila, Furo and Warikubu in homogeneity and distinctly before Tubonemi and Kurukuruaro stock came and joined Orubo. Till this day Iyerego Orubo is homogeneous family.
Through the mischievous acts of some members of Tubonemi unit, the Iyerego Orubo Warikubu that was comprised of Iyerego Orubo Unit, Tubonemi Unit and Kurukuruaro has now been separated, paving way for Iyerego Orubo Warikubu to now be an Omu-Aru.
It is worthy of note that Chief Iyerego Orubo(4), Chief Stephen Ebene Orubo, Chief Dennis A. J. Orubo (DAJO), were all chiefs in the Ibanilele Omu-Aru, when we were together. Now an, homogeneous and nucleus Iyerego Opuorubo Omu-Aru and Chief has emerged as Chief/Head of Iyerego Opuorubo Omu-Aru.
